Windblock

Greeings,

Anybody have a windblock? What is your opinion of it? Brand or DIY? If latter, can you post the plan you made it from?

Thanks

Tom Rynne's "WINDBLOCKER" is the way to go - we love ours...its on our '79 that we tow behind our motorhome...used it all over US, Canada & Alaska!

I can second that motion for Tom's "Windblocker." (It's the one sold by Little British Car Co. and Moss Motors.) Sure, you could make your own, but Tom's model is slick, and the materials are right. You can save a nice amount of change if you order from him direct. For more info, see his website at https://www.morspeedperformance.com/wind_blockers.shtml

I'll be driving cross-country in the B this summer to MG2005 in Olympia, Wash., and will have to do a good bit of interstate driving ... So the Windblocker is going to make this trip a lot more pleasant.

As a purist and lover of true vintage motoring I feel obligated to say "You wussies!" That said, I've never actually used a windblocker and the reason I don't is that I might grow to like it. Must...resist...luxury... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Have you seen the ones on BMW, Audi, or Porsche convertibles? They look like a black screen material. I wonder if something like that would work for the MGB? A screen would cut a fair amount of wind. I think those might be some type of metal screen though because a regular screen would probably slacken. I don't know. Just thinking.

I recently bought Tom's "Windblocker" from LBCarCo. Fit perfectly on my '73 B with no adjustments necessary. Definitely does a good job, especially at highway speeds. I resisted buying one at first, but my girlfriend prompted the purchase with some severely tangled hair. She's happy now and I'm happy now b/c I get to drive the 'B' wherever we go.

My buddy has a BMW Z4 with the screen windblockers behind each headrest. They are metal and very efficient at reducing the wind.

Keep thinking Bill, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

U'r on the right track. Because in Roger Williams’ How to Improve MGB, MGC & MGB V8 the idea of windblocks is a topic in Chapter 11. They list a number or materials including polycarbonate, perforated PVC sheets and mesh material.

I am considering getting some clear polycarbonate and cut it down to fit in between my roll-bar and attach it with some tie-wraps or zip ties.

I agree with Steve.... A little extra wind never hurt anyone.

Yeah, but if it makes Jerri happier in my MG's, then I'm all for it! We use it on trips - her hair doesn't blow, we can carry on a conversation, life's good!

In other words, "a little wind never hurt anyone", but an unhappy wife has....frequently.

Bret,

I cut one to follow the outline of my rollbar. I use double-sided velcro strip material to mount mine to the rollbar. It allows for easy removal and installation. I just routed 4 slots in the polycarbonate and run the velcro strap through it.

So you people must be getting old.
No wussie wind blocker for me, and if the old lady complains, I tell her to wear a hat or scarf /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
But who knows, I might get to be your age one of these days.
