Some of you might be surprise to know that I actually feel pretty bad for Brian Williams. Though his newscasts were not my cup of tea, the guy has pretty much destroyed what could have been a long lucrative career. Yeah, I know he did it to himself, but like the rest of us, he's human and prone to screwing up. I hope he can redeem himself and find his way back to a meaningful position in journalism. I feel bad for his family too. It's gotta be hard on them.
 
I have a hard time finding much sympathy. Not only did he do it to himself but he did it deliberately for the purpose of making us think he was more important than he really was. I find that rather disgusting.
 
Not much sympathy here either. Text book example of..."If you tell the truth it becomes a part of your past, if you tell a lie it becomes part of your future".

Agreed, I know his type. This harks back to what I said about certain people who "are never wrong" and rewrite past events to suit their egos.

It wasn't a mistake, it was deliberate misrepresentation of actual fact. Anyone remember when news events ACTUALLY happened and were reported as such?

He was in a position of public trust and he abused it; he deserves whatever fallout he gets. You reap what you sow. To many times have I seen people in a position to influence others push their agendas when their job is to educate, not indoctrinate.... It's not a mistake, it's unethical!

It's about time there is some accountability in the media for sensationalizing stories. :thumbsup: I'm shocked that something is actually being done about it in this case.

I am an extremely sympathetic person and no one makes more mistakes than me but this is inexcusable.

I kind of agree Basil, but the problem is memories last a long time and there is always the news media it's self that never let's sad events just fade away. I don't feel sorry for him, he made his bed so he has to lay in it, I really feel sorry for his family, the pressure on them must be tremendous and they are feeling a pain they had nothing to do with. A whole life style changed. Sad, very sad. PJ
 
I do not feel sorry for Williams, but I can understand what many years of experiences can do to the brain. There is the possibility of alzheimers or plain dementia. He has always presented a character of serious being and can joke at same time. I really do not believe he fabricated story to make him look good. Being on a talk show with the questions thrown at you can be quite exhausting and something taken out of context will hit you like a brick wall. He knows he screwed up, but I would still like to see him back on the air. Cannot stand Scott Pelley, produces his own show and has an uppity look to me. Like the at home style of Williams. I never got to go to Nam, had to run the $ to send everybody else. Wish I could have. I only wear USMC Vietnam Era clothing or patches. Did have to stand riot duty in NC in 69-70, about the only thing I can swear to and killing **** roaches big enough to make you slip and fall.
