WiFi question

Yesterday we got a new modem as part of switching plans with our internet provider.

On my ipad and SWMBO's Macbook there is access to a 5G network that is twice the speed.

This network does not show up on my list of networks - I get only the original (2.4G?) network.

Did a bit of googling and I suspect I don't have a dual band wifi card in my laptop.

So,

1. Am I correct in this assessment?

2. Is this something I can remedy with a firmware update?

3. If it needs a hardware update is it doable?

I have a Lenovo B575 running Windows 7

thanks all!

JP,
It's not twice the speed, just twice the frequency. The speeds are really not much different; no need to update your laptop.

with speedtest, I was getting download speed of about 20mbps with the standard and 40 - 45 (on my ipad) with the 5G - so, pretty big difference.

So, bigger isn't better?
