Wick oil filter

Country flag
Offline
While at the local O'Riley auto parts store, a salesman was cutting open a Fram filter to show the shop people the difference on the inside. I told him I use K and H 2009. He swore they were the same as his Wick at about half the price. Any one heard of them or use their filters? By the way the Fram had about 1/4 the filter paper of his Wick.

It is Wix.
Wix markets filters under its own name and also does private label manufacturing including for NAPA.
I wouldn't bet my life on it but doubt they make K&N's filters.
BTW Frams are junk in any case

I have used the Napa Gold filter # 1068 and AC #PF20 oil filter in past years on the Healey. The Wix 51516 should also fit. I have only used K+N 2009 on the Healey in the last few years.
I quit using Fram oil filters several years ago on my daily drivers after I found out how cheaply they are made. To be fair, I need to say that I never had any problems with my daily drivers because of using Fram oil filters.

Make it +2 on Michael's comments about Fram filters.

I have not had any problems with Fram filters (that I know of), but they also make several grades. I'm not wild about their standard grade.

Well WIX is OK just check them carefully I have seen cases where the end plate seals are not properly bonded.-Fwiw--Keoke

Have used Wix 51516 on my BJ8 and other sizes on other cars for years (occasionally cutting them open to inspect). No problems.

Would try the K&N, but doubt I'd be able to get one on with the the nut on the end and the limited clearance with the servo.

Bob,the 2009 K&N fits easily but that "nut" on the end is useless. I also have a BJ8. If you are going to Rendezvous, come check mine out.

Just finished a 10-day road trip in my BJ8 (4K miles), but thanks for the invite.

You have the 'usual' spin-on adapter and you can get the K&N in and out without the servo getting in the way (I can barely get the Wix in and out)?

Bob,the PO put on the adapter eons ago. It seems to sit out about one inch from the block. K&H make a smaller version that may work. I believe it is #2008. I ran with one a while ago when the #2009 was out of stock. No problems.
