Is anyone else as disgusted by this as I am? I groaned when I saw it. Not that I'm an ultra purist or anything, but sidepipes on a GT6??? And that hood.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif

GT6

all goes with the big honkin motor thats been shoved in it.

Not really my thing, but I bet it hauls when you prod the loud pedal...

Someone wanted a V-8 Datsun 240.

Hey I've got no problem with stuffing big motors in small cars. Just seemed to me that not to much thought was given to the aesthetics on this one. Looks like he was trying more for Corvette summer rather than Shelby Cobra.

Somehow one of the prettiest little cars ever made was turned into a butchered nightmare!

I guess I'd have to agree, both with "one of the prettiest cars..." and the "butchered" aspect of this one. Makes one wonder why the guy didn't start with an Opel GT if he wanted that "pseudo-Corvette" look? But then, I always used to like the Opel GT as it was....

Off with his 'ed, I say.

Blasphemy! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

OOF! I don't mind engine swaps, but this is just butchery! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/pukeface.gif

Let me see.
Fender flares = bigger tires
Rear spoiler = stable hi speeds
hood buldge = place for the carb
5 speed = go's faster then 100mph
side pipes = even I hate side pipes

With brakes and tires that would allow the car to be driven hard it looks like it would be a bunch of fun to drive.

These LBC's aren't all that rare and if someone wants to send a bunch of THEIR money to mod THEIR car why should it
matter. Personally I would much rather see a modded car out being driven, than some trailered garage queen.

Take a look at this sweet stock AC.

They're lovely cars... I understand they're likely to be "improved" into Cobras. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

Saw an old AC Greyhound out driving the other day... probably for the first and only time.....

I have to agree with TRED on this. While it is not how I would do the mods; it still better than a rusted out mess in a field or a forever "I'll get around to it some day" under a tarp in the garage. The GT6 as built is a good looking car, I would have blended in things a bit better.

I did see a true travesty on the cover of Street Rodder a few years ago. Someone purchased a restored 36 Chrysler Airflow and proceeded to install Viper V10. Of course with that came the usual hotrodders idea of custom bodywork. An Airflow is rare car, not cool. I'm not a purist but hacking on an old rare car is almost a moral question. Just my opinion , but my wife says I'm always right. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Agreed that a modded car is still better than a rusting hulk. Heavily modded car better than a trailer queen? Depends on the car. As I stated before, I'm no purist and not against fitting higher output and non-original engines and supporting running gear, especially to non-historically significant models that are plentiful. My issue with this car specifically centers around aesthetics, I just don't like the look of it. I can appreciate the performance he probably gets from it though. Sure, Shelby did the same, and now many of us revere the Cobras, but the small block equipped Cobras really didn't look all that much different than the original A/C cars. No fender flares, no sidepipes, etc.. Thats the way I like to see it done. Things started looking radically different when the big block cars came along. I know there are people out there who would rather have a small block Cobra for this very reason. I like the big block cars also, but for a different reason.

Correct again on anther point, the guy can mod his car any way he likes, it's his ride and his money. However that doesn't mean I have to like it, which is all I'm saying here. I'm sure the thing is a hoot to drive if it's screwed together well.

IMHO, italians penned the most beautiful cars in the world including our british cars (my tr4 anyways). obviously that guy is not. i am not but i can tell the difference.
