So when you are driving to work in the morning and your exhaust pipe drops to the ground, you can wire it back up and get home.

Luckily a friend from work was willing to drive out and loan me a bit of wire. Muffler is reattached now, and I need to replace the rubber mount just ahead of the rear axle.

Now I know what that little "plink" was yesterday... it was the muffler mount bolt coming out.

Perhaps this will also solve the annoying noise you are getting.

Glad no serious problem. Where was that picture taken?
I was on I80 about 4 years ago at 6AM local time and it looked just as that does.

No change in the noise, David -- I didn't expect there to be. Would have been nice, though.

Picture was taken at about 6:45 am on US 40 between Heber and Park City, overlooking the Jordanelle reservoir. At least I had a nice view (behind me in the picture) while I waited for my friend. :smile:
 
I thought all that was just rebuilt/built by professionals.
 
Yes and no, Jack. In this case, the bolt just worked its way loose. Can't blame the pros for that one, since I was the last one to touch that bolt.
 
Ahh, a nice stainless lock washer next time pls.
 
We'll get it cleared up and more solid, no worries there. Just a bit of oversight on my part.
 
In case you wondered Drew, you are not the only person here who has done something like that.

A while back I was just getting ready to give a friend a first ride in The Little Car - It was at this time the engine decided to disconnect itself from the exhaust pipe.
Bailing wire, actually coat hanger wire, got me home...

Ha! Funny. Exact same thing happened to my '56 Dodge about ten years ago. Muffler let go, tied it up with a coat hanger wire I found by the side of the road. Apparently a malady that crosses geographic borders.
