Why too much valve clearance after adjustment?

I have a 1956 BN2 with a recent M conversion and engine rebuild with DWR1 cam. The free play adjustment for this cam is .015 and I use the 9 method to set the valves. So my problem is this, when I put #1 valve fully open then adjust #8 valve to .015 but I have noticed if I move #1 valve just ever, ever so slightly beyond fully open the #8 valve clearance jumps to .019. Does the dramatic jump in valve clearance seem normal? Thanks Marty

Update: I checked valves clearance again and the difference is not as much as I thought when valve #1 is fully open or little past fully open. I must have read it wrong.

Suggestion for checking:
A while ago someone mentioned using a Harbor Freight compression gauge hose with a balloon on the end to determine TDC. I used a finger off a nitrile glove attached with a rubber band. The expansion and contraction of the balloon will show the exact TDC when you rotate the engine. Rotate the engine, moving the hose to each cylinder, through the firing order and use this device to get TDC on each cylinder; valves will be loose and clearance can be checked.
