Why do I live here?

I know I'm not supposed to post here anymore
but I couldn't let this one go. I hope the
Triumph gurus and senior TR Experts don't get even
more ticked off at me and complain to Basil or send
me more nasty emails.

ENOUGH!! Alright Dale, you know I like you and have stood up for you on numerous occasions (you have no idea how many times I’ve stood up for you behind the scenes), but it is time to put this crap to bed once and for all. So let’s get a few things straight.

This notion that “I’m not supposed to post here anymore” is a notion of your own doing! You told Mickey on the phone that I had suggested that you leave the Triumph forum. That is incorrect, Dale. You are the one who PM’d me and suggested it was time for you to leave. The exact title of your PM was “best to leave Triumph forum.” In that PM you questioned my deleting your thread in which you aired your personal disagreements with other members. Then, regarding my deleting your thread said:

“Puts me in a bad spot; since now I am afraid to post questions when my car breaks down or I do not know how to accomplish some task.”

Puts YOU in a bad spot? What about the spot you put ME in by making a post that you knew was in clear violation of my rules? I would have done the same for anyone who violated my rules and started dragging a personal conflict into the open forum. Frankly Dale, I feel you were taking advantage of our friendship by expecting me to treat your rant thread any differently than I would treat anyone else. If my own mother, God rest her, had posted that rant I’d still have deleted it. I try real hard to be fair and consistent in how I apply the rules here. I’m not saying I’m always 100-percent perfect, but I do try.

My rules clearly state the following:

“4. Personal attacks will not be tolerated! If you feel a member is out of line, contact us with the specifics and give us a chance to deal with it. You have the ability to IGNORE any user by viewing their profile and clicking the Ignore This User link. (See the FAQ page for more info on ignoring users).”

In that rule it says “if you feel a member is out of line, contact us.” Did you ever contact me or Mickey with a complaint to give us a chance to resolve any issues? Answer: No, you did not; you drug your personal conflict into the open forum, knowingly in violation of the rules.

Now, about this notion that there are “elitists” or “senior experts” here who might complain, let’s put this nonsense and name-calling to rest as well. The fact is, nobody complained about you to me regarding your deleted thread. Nobody. It has been my observation that there may be a few “experts” (and they really are experts) who lost patience with you, but to be blunt, I can understand why. Because I care about this forum, I did something that probably no other forum admin would have bothered to do – I called a couple of these “elitists” on the phone to hear their side of things, given that you had PM’d me with your side. I am a pretty good judge of character, and my impression about both the members I called is that they are both very nice gentlemen, with many years of automotive and mechanical experience, but who maybe have just gotten a bit frustrated with you after years of trying to help you, often behind the scenes. Paul (Brosky) for example, has been in the “help Dale behind the scenes” camp for a long time and, yes, he got frustrated with you and emailed you some strong words. Maybe that wasn’t the best way for him to handle his frustrations, but at the same time, maybe it’s not just because Brosky is a bad guy (he isn’t a bad guy in my humble opinion). In my humble opinion, there are always two sides to every story. It is my observation that there are some personality conflicts going on here in which one side maybe has let their frustrations get the better of them, but the other side maybe has a too-thin skin.

The bottom line is this: You are not and were not banned from posting here. There are some very experienced folks here who have tried to help you and, yes, some of them have gotten understandably frustrated over the years, but that doesn’t make them elitists, or otherwise bad people. If you want to continue to post questions here, you are welcomed to do so, but if there are members who bother you, then put them on your ignore list, notify me or Mickey (if they are breaking the rules), or do both.

And for anyone who doesn’t want to read Dale’s posts, or who can’t respond in a civil fashion, no one is twisting your arm: put him on YOUR ignore list. But the pity party is over – it stops here and it stops now. I’ve worked too hard over the years to try and keep things friendly and focused on the hobby here, and if this post makes me out to be the bad guy, so be it. Sometimes being the leader means doing things that are not pleasant, and that may not win you any popularity contests, but which you know need doing. And for the record, I’m not posting this to debate the issue with anyone – and I won’t.
