Why Am I Getting Gray [Grey?] Hairs?

Came home from work.Daughter's car is parked out front.
It's a '99 Saturn SL2.Thought she stopped by,then I noticed a handwritten note.....
Seems that she was going down the highway when the car
quit abruptly. She had it towed to our house.
Upon the advice of my Wife,I went to the auto parts store, bought oil & a filter,& changed the oil.
After putting the second qurt in,I noticed that oil was
leaking from under the engine.Upon closer inspection,I noticed a broken piece of metal,& an "inspection hole" in
the bottom of the oil pan.
Upon looking at the oil filter box from the last oil change,I realized that it had been about 10,000 miles since
the last oil change.
I have a hard enough time taking care of the vehicles that we have here. Now we have a dead Saturn with 83,000 miles on it,sitting in front of our house.

niiice. need a Volvo wagon to compliment it? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

You could pro'lly find a wrecking yard engine fairly cheap for a Saturn.

She seized I guess.

If another engine is aquired, guess who'll get to
change it out?
Shoot - if someone wants to come over & do the labor,
I'll buy them lunch.Heck,I'll even throw in a case of beer!

Why Am I Getting Gray (Grey?) Hairs?

You answered your own question--------------------you have kids.

Right!I should have taken my own advice back before we had kids - Borrow the neighbor's kids,& send them back home
when you've had enough.

A guy I work with has a 19 year old daughter, just like me. Three weeks ago she filled the car up with diesel. Problem is.........it's not a diesel engine.

Houston, we have a problem!

You could lay a set of tools & a repair manual on the hood & see what happens....hehehe

tony, years ago we gave our son an izuzu trooper as his first vehicle it had about 90 thou. on it but ran well and was very clean one morning he drove down our "u" shaped driveway when he hit the bump where the drive meets the street spilling a large glass of milk and cereal onto his lap he tried to lift his tush up so he wouldnt get wet in doing so he pressed down the gas pedal accelerated in a circle hitting a telephone pole that had two huge truck batteries in a large metal box about 12 feet up the pole come crashing onto the hood the car was totalled, i had to deflate the left front tire to get the car back up the driveway and into the garage, after gathering my own composure and thanking the powers that be i told my son hed be getting up earlier in the morning to catch the yellow school bus that he loved so much, laid out all the tools hed need to disassemble the damage, after 2.5 weeks and three boxes of band aids he emerged with a greater appreciation for the consequences of being lackadaisical and a far greater focus on his driving skills, when he graduated high school we gave him a jeep cherokee with only 18 thou. on it, man does he keep that thing clean. wonder why?

Methinks it's better to get gray hairs than to lose 'em!! Then again, kids'll make you do both!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazyeyes.gif

There ya go, anthony...but I'm not sure it'd work on a girl!

Why not Tony? They are just as capable as boys!! I just watched a show on a concourse d'elegance up in NY somewhere on TV. All the participants were women, and boy (maybe I should have said "Wow" there!)did they have some nice cars (that most of them had done themselves!), Everything from a classic Rolls to a Boss Mustang!! We all just need to be given the right direction!!

I know, I have a daughter....together we restored her first car, a '71 VW Karmann Ghia (she's 35 & we still have it!)...her husband swears she knows more about cars than all his male friends....but I taught her from when she & I spent 'quality' daughter-dad time on Saturday morninigs: breakfast is a greasy spoon her mom wouldn't even go in & then a tour of the local salvage yards looking for 'prizes'! I doubt a set of tools & a repair manual out of the blue would work with a girl like with anthony's son.

Girl or boy....it really doesn't matter, the first car they own should never be bought for them...they should have to build it themselves.....enough time under it seems to really increase the respect they have for it when they are in it!
We started ours on his 1st car when he was 14. He had it running a few months before he turned 16. Besides earning his respect for the "machine" he and his father earned hours of quality time and developed a true friendship with each other in the garage.
Girls should have the same training!!! No reason they can't get their hands dirty if they want something bad enough. Plus it really gives them a boost not being taken advantage of by unscrupulous mechanics later in life.

exactly if you don't go grey then you will pull them out. I am lucky as both my boys enjoy travelling the wrecking yards as much as I do.

That is close to what Rockette and I did, except the kids were
Rockettes mothers. We'd take them for the summer, and give them
back when school started...

We still don't have kids...
