WHO WANTS TO TRADE A BUGEYE FOR A "TR3"?

Hi Folks,

I have a really nice "Driver Cond" `59 Bugeye that I would like to "Heads-Up" trade for a "Triumph TR2,3or3A". I "DON`T" want to outright sell my Bugeye cause I don`t want to be left without an LBC.

Here`s a brief desc of my Bugeye.

She`s Red Ext & Int with White piping. She sports the Orig. 948 engine with a smooth case trans. Recent Tune-Up / All fluids changed / Everything works except the horn / Like new top with Side Curtains (No Tonneau) / Orig. style luggage rack / I am 2nd owner / Paint is nice & shinny (10footer in my opinion) / VIN is: AN5L24598 / Eng is: 9CUH36881 / Starts right up & runs great / Oil Pressure when cold = 60-70lbs / Running Oil Pressure same / Idles after warm up 45-50lbs.

Should anyone have an interest; Please PM me or email to: toysrus@ptd.net for pics etc.

Gundy & Hap; Don`t have a stroke after reading this! I just have a soft spot for TR3s. I`ve had 3 of them in the past & want another one. Their just a blast to drive & offer some HP.

Regards, Russ

An understandable trade... I've a soft spot for the TR3 as well.

You may have trouble finding someone who wants to trade, though. Plenty around, though, so if you did sell the Bugeye you wouldn't be without for very long. Good luck!

Re: WHO WANTS TO TRADE A BUGEYE FOR A "TR3"?

I went looking for a TR3 a couple years ago to compliment my Midget...totally different driving experience as you already know. I found it difficult to locate a clean, relatively original car that had not had major surgery. When I did the price was high.

I finally had one come to me, a car I had known of for 8 years and had expressed an interest in. I knew the history and what was under the 'new' (now 10 year old) paint...a clean, straight frame, good sheetmetal, and unmolested drive train. I paid more than I wanted but have not regretted the decision...especially after doing a front end rebuild. It runs straight and doesn't eat front tires.

I agree with Drew, a trade will be more difficult to pull off as you have to find someone that desires to get rid of the TR3 AND acquire a Bugeye. Probably gonna be a person that trades LBCs regularly, so look for prices to be low on the incoming and high on the outgoing. If possible I'd find the TR3 and buy it, then put the Bugeye up for sale...you'll have negotiating room on both transactions and much wider sources/mnarkets.

TR3s have shown a bit of a gain in value over the last 5 years; in my experience they are harder to acquire than the guides would indicate. If you want the long swoopy design elements what are the other choices? Mostly high dollar alternatives. The downturn in the economy MAY present an opportunity for you to buy right...

Howdy Ray,

I totally agree with yourself on TR3 condition. Most are in need of some sort of body work.

The "Decent" ones are relatively fairly priced & like you say; An "Un-Molested" TR3, even needing cosmetic work is fetching a pretty good $$$.

I posted the same on the Triumph Forum & so far 90 lookers but no takers.

I agree with yourself & drooartz that I may have a difficult time here but I figured; What the Hay; Nothing ventured - Nothing gained.

I would like to keep the Bugeye cause they are really getting up there in the value dept. & Everyone loves them. Maybe things will change financially for myself in the near future after moving to the "Up-State, SC" area end of this month; Like a winning "Lottery Ticket"! Then, I keep the Bugeye, Buy a Gorgeous TR3 like "TR3BGeorge" has and a "Series I E-Type Rdstr" (I`ve had 4 of them)!

Another option would be a nice, clean "MGA" preferably a 1500 if anyone out there has an interest in trading.

Well; Lets see what happens? In the meantime; I`m just going to enjoy driving my Bugeye around & have fun with the general public waving, thumbs up & questions like; "What kind of car is that; Thats Cool".

Wait till I put my "Wind-Up" key on her. I can`t wait to hear the comments then!

See Y`All Later,

Russ
