Who Owns/ likes LBC'S ?

I'm gonna have someone out to do my son's toilet.

The best line is: <span style="font-style: italic">"fly-in-urinal research...."</span> don't know if they had that when I went to school?

My mother had a sign in the bathroom that said, "My aim is to keep this room clean, your aim will help".
I guess this is where that went to.
And as Basil said, "Brilliant"

Dave

I've been a British car nut since I was a kid and have owned a number of Jags and Triumph Spitfires over the years. What got me interested was a neighbor lady who had a nephew (Doctor) who would come and visit her sometimes in his Jag XK-150. That car was so different from anything else in the neighborhood that it just stuck with me all these years as a cool car to have (although I never actually owned a 150).

So, while I'm dying to follow the "stream" of thought this thread has taken. I want to come back to Basil's observation. So much of this hobby has to do with what was cool when we were kids/teens. For the most part (not entirely obviously as we have younger members here also and many LBCs are budget cars compared to a lot of what else is out there) we get the cars we craved when we couldn't afford them. My first true car love was a Bugeye - Ms Triss, though a square body, happened to come my way. I still clearly remember a friend of my Dad's pulling in with a 67 or 68 white Barracuda fastback, black interior with 318 stenciled across the hood. Of course this is why Muscle Cars fetch crazy money now and you can barely give away early 50's iron. I suspect the hobby has more to do with what was there when we were 18 than just about anything. Sadly that makes the future a little grim for the hobby, partly because of the dismal decades that followed in terms of car design and mostly because they quickly got too complicated to wrench on our own. Mind you there certainly is a strong Mustang/Vette/Camaro following out there yet.

The "demonification" of fossil fuels is likely more a factor in the demise of our cars than disinterested younger enthusiasts, methinks. As the complexity and design homogenization of modern vehicles progresses we'll see more interest in "older" cars, but an overall societal attitude regarding "gas burners" will kill any chance the beasties will survive.

eeep... that just kinda slipp'd out. :smirk:

I never gave much thought as to who IS a LBC NUT?
I have you all nailed. There is no A typical LBC owner. Which I&#146;m sure explains the similarity in all of us.

Actually the answer is quite simple: we're all weird, there is something ~DEFINALTY~ wrong with us and we're gluttons for punishment.

One thing I did notices at the New Orleans show, is that you'll see cars in conditions you wouldn't normally see at a car show. ( which I think is wonderful). You'll see cars needing paint, interior, engine work (almost all of them leak) and no matter how bad a car may look according to "other" car standards, if it can run and drive, it'll be there and EVERYONE is glad to see it show up. This made me feel allot better about the condition of mine, that I wasn't the odd man out.

I was not expecting that at all but was pleasantly suprised by it. One thing I see that definaly stands out about "us" is a majority of us actually DRIVE our cars as often as possible. There are folks around here (home)who have nice "rods", but you never see them on the road execpt for local shows.

I don't get it, I like cars because I enjoy DRIVING them, not looking at them. I don't want to stand in a parking lot and look at my car, I'd rather be driving it. If I want to look at it, I'll carry a picture in my wallet.

And we all encourage each other to drive them like they are. Whenever someone post a problem it usually comes w/ " hurry up and get back out there" v.s " do this and that before you go back out" which I've heard from allot of "other" car owners.

I venture to say we enjoy the actual driving experience more than other marque owners, that's why we bought these things.

Well, all I can say is---- I bought both of mine "cos my wife said so.(of course,I always do what she tells me.) :jester:
And as Billy says, our Midget gets driven as much as possible.

Stuart.

I'm not sure why, but the discussion about Amsterdam above reminds me of the following movie:

Well, if you must know I put the post up about Schipol Airport because one could say that all of us that have LBC's are <span style="font-style: italic">"peons"</span> because of all the work we must continually do to keep them on the road!

One of rapper Snoop Dogg's songs goes "There's so much drama in the LBC".

Though he's referring to Long Beach, it is kinda fitting.

None of us LIKE LBC's.....we've all just got deep masochistic streaks which none of us want to admit to and our cars are socially and publicly acceptable forms of "treatment"!! LOL Yeah...that's the ticket!! <Now, can I deduct their expenses on my taxes as a "medical expense"???!>
