Cross post from restoration forum.....

anyone know where I can get british leaf springs made?

apparently MG, Triumph, etc. used a thinner width spring steel and I'm having trouble finding a spring guy who has the correct width material in stock (apparently has to be ordered by the ton)

this is for Morgans. I'm a morgan parts supplier and trying to provide Morgan owners a lower cost alternative than the expense of having springs shipped from england at a high exchange rate and higher shipping charges.

yes, i know about the composite spring guy.

thanks!

meh.

Wish I had a good answer for the spring materials, Eric, but never thought about it before... most of the cars here are coils (minus the B, of course) and if it was a client's car needing springs we'd get 'em from "the usual suspects". Now I'm curious as the B would benefit from a new set.

I've heard rave reviews from those who have installed the composites on B's. They're an off-the-shelf bit for MG's....

Morgan guys tend to prefer steel, tho....

great. Thanks a bunch, Eric.

I'm still waffling over poly vs. standard front-end bushings. Now you give me THAT bit to ponder... sheesh.

Always glad to help.

BTW, re: bushes, have you considered vesconite?

GAH! No. Sounds, umm... "exotic" (read: expen$ive). Looking for a pre-made solution, a "set" for the front-end. If I still had access to machine tools, a block of th' stuff could be an option. As it is, I'm doin' all this in my driveway.

I was kidding about the vesconite (not expensive, but a PITA to get).

However, if you EVER need a lathe, bridgeport, press brake, shear, or welding equipment - this novice would enjoy an opportunity to learn a trick or two from a wizened veteran. Mi casa et tu casa, brute....

Philly in mid-February... umm... I think not. But if I'm ever back that way I'd look ya up, fer sure.
And it'd be in August. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif
