These are for my suspect TR3 fuel pump. The black's from the TRF kit, the red from the Moss kit. My fuel pump is suspiciously covered in crud, and I think I'm smelling gas when checking the oil, so I'll change the diaphragm and oil at the same time. (Well, not at the same time, but you know what I mean.

FWIW, the Moss kit was for the TR6 fuel pump, but I found the 2 small valves impossible to put in; I wound up using the perfect fitting TRF valves. Sometimes it pays to have a few extras laying about.

On a related note, I remember in the past saying I used a Vise grips to pinch off the fuel line, and Andy Mace, (I think) said there was a better solution, but of course I can't remember. I've also used golf tees in the past, any other recommended ideas????
 
Was it foreceps? I have been using a small C-clamp. The smooth clamping surface seem less damaging.
Now might be a good time to put a cut-off valve inline if you have the room.
 
I started a thread on this you can look back for the details.

The short answer is that I had two of the red ones from Moss and both failed within an hour or so. It seems the ethanol in the modern gas eats through them. Both had the same failure mode and that was for the red rubbery material to disolve and fuel got through to the oil sump, and the pump could not deliver fuel any more. Cost me a lot of oil and filters.

I tried a third one from a local vender and it also failed. I have not tried TRF one yet. I ended up putting a replacement filter on the car but winter and snow came before I could get many miles on the car, and I am avoiding gas formulated with ethanol.
 
Kevin - what sort of crud is getting in? Debris from the gas tank?

Do you have a filter (or two) before the fuel gets to the pump?

That's getting to be well-nigh impossible down here on the other side of the 49th parallel. All road-taxed gasoline sold in the US now has ethanol in it.

I expect the same will happen here some day so I would like to solve this pump problem before that happens

My line before the fuel pump is long enough that I can hang the end at a level above the fuel in the tank and that way it does not leak.

Thankfully, the "crud" is completely external. I'm guessing a slight leak, and dust/dirt has stuck to the outside of the pump....

Looks like I'll try the TRF diaphragm, thanks for the heads up!
