Which oil pump?

My opinion only. Go for the gear pump. Several racers I know have lost motors due to the rotor type pump - they do put out more volume but that also means lots more load on the drive gears on the cam as well as more loading on the cam thrust washer. One fellow I know stripped the drive gear off the cam in a fresh motor after about about 20 laps = instant loss of oil pressure & toasted everything (he does have a virtually new 'dry sump' cam for sale...). Denis Welch sells a roller bearing thrust washer set-up for the cam to help with the problem of cams wearing away the thrust washer.

The rotor type pump was used in the 100-6 motors but they changed to the gear type early on (don't know exactly when but I think it was when the 2.9 came out). The 100-6 tach shows a 4800 red line, and for the lower reves the rotor pump is fine.

So if you think you will spend much time at 6000 rpm, then I would definately go with the gear. On the other hand, if you won't be revving it that high the rotor type should be fine.

Hopefully Richard (boy racer) will chime in, he has done more research on this than I have.
