Where to find the car number on a 100-6?

We are trying to find out as much information as possible on our 1957 Longbridge Healey 100-6. The plate with the car number is gone and all there is left is the body- and batchnumber. The enginenumber is there, but since the engine is a 3000 engine, this won't be the right number. Anybody knows if the number can be found elsewhere on the car? We need it to get our heritage certificate...

Just came back from the Texas Healey Roundup and loved every minute of it! Great cars, great weather and great help when our car broke down.

Glad you had a good time at the Roundup. I hope you can join us at the site of the Healey Museum in Va the week-end of Sept 28,2006 for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Introduction of the 100-Six. I hope to see you there

Does anyone know, is the number stamped on the floor pans or near the front shock mount, isn't that where you can find it on a BJ8?

I believe that the "Car No." -- also sometimes slightly erroneously called the "chassis number" -- is found in only one place, and that is on the small, stamped metal plate affixed to the firewall (with some exceptions in the early cars that we needn't discuss here in order to avoid confusing things, please). If the small, stamped metal plate is missing, you will not find the Car. No. anywhere on the car. However, the Body Number alone is adequate to establish the Car No. The BMIHT can handle it.

Pay the fee. Get the certificate. Over and out.

Mike - check out Clausager's book - "The Original Austin Healey" or go to Derek Job's website www.healeysix.net and look under production data, "the body number is stamped on the back of the cockpit trim strips." Interesting reading for the Longbridge car.

We just tried to call them today but couldn't reach them. We were just wondering if there might be another place for it on the car. But I guess we'll just send in the bodynumber and see what they can do. Thanks everybody!
Unfortunatly we won't be able to make it to the Healey Museum in september, we are moving back home to the Netherlands in 4 weeks. We are steeling one of the Big Healeys back to europe!

Here it is on my BN6 (rt fr shock):

BTW, correct spelling is Randy. Anybody that I've ever met with their name spelled Randi has different anatomy than I do.

Randy,

Very interesting. Everything I've read says the reference number on various body panels (hood hinge bracket, hood latch bracket, trunk rod prop bracket) and the frame number on the shock tower do not match either the car number or body number on the 6 cylinder cars. Anyone else notice this panel/frame number matching the body number on other 6 cylinder cars?

Cheers,
John

I'm bumping this back up with the hopes that some of you can comment on the panel/frame numbers matching the body number.

Cheers,
John

Hi John, I have never seen them match up before either. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif---Keoke
