Where is the 8th person?

There is a reason they waited years to be rescue (statute of limitations?) and why every attempt at saving themselves was scuttled.
NONE of them are talking about the eighth person on the boat.
As the Minnow leaves port in the opening credits of Gilligan’s Island, when the lyrics proclaim, "Five passengers set sail that day," eight people can be counted aboard the boat. Ginger and Mary Ann sit up front. Gilligan and the Skipper stand up top. The Howells and the Professor are aft. That leaves the mysterious man piloting the boat. What ever happened to him?

I like the murder angle. Maybe it was a Murder on the Orient Express situation. The seven all agreed to help in the plot, and then spent years in hiding on the island. With the Professor's know how, they could have easily fixed the radio and called for help, or repaired the Minnow.
 
But it was a fun show! :love:
 
Come to think of it ... didn't "Gilligan" have an earlier TV role, in Dobie Gillis? Hmmm, what was that character's name .... Maybe now we know the *real* identify of who started this thread!

OK so on my most recent cruise I *finally* learned about "pilots", local sailors who have intimate knowledge of the port. They sail out to the cruise ship and take over the helm because they know exactly where every hazard is located. They are basically marine valets. When the ship departs, the pilot navigates out to (relatively) open water, where the captain takes over again. The pilot then hops on to a smaller boat which takes him back to the port.

So, the very least interesting theory possible is that he's the local pilot who sailed the Minnow out of the marina and then went home.

I like the conspiracy idea, but what if...
Crewman 3 was presumed lost at sea in the storm. He's never discussed openly because everyone knows that Skipper and Gilligan didn't try very hard to save him (or were as inept at rescue as they were at everything else). All of their plans at escaping get scuttled not by bad luck and not even by incompetence, but by Crewman 3, who is quietly taking revenge for abandoning him. They don't even know he's still alive. Twist: He's nearly as incompetent as the others, and his actual goal is to kill them all, but HIS plans backfire constantly.
They should reboot the show with Crewman 3 as the main character. I'd watch that.

Of course for all the visitors they had, presumably disguised as humans, maybe they were in an alien "petting" zoo on a distant planet. Afterall we never saw the ocean and they never wandered far from camp. Kind of like the movie "The Truman show"...
 
Was the pilot , cameraman, and makeup artist ever mentioned?
 
FINALLY......the explanation for what happened to Chuck Cunningham!! IYKYK!! :D
