Well, we got the answer to that question yesterday when we spotted a huge (at least 6ft long) Bull Snake that has taken up residence under a tree near our house. That would explain why we haven't seen any pesky gophers digging up our lawn lately. I hope he (or she) stays around and makes lots of baby Bull Snakes! They keep rodents and rattle snakes at bay!

I have a woodchuck under my shed that needs taking care of, but I don't think I want a snake in my yard large enough to do it.

Bull snakes are not going to bother you. They may be big and scary looking, but they will leave you alone if you leave them alone.

Snakes in general don't bother me. I think they're pretty neat. I don't mind them being around (As long as they're not rattlers or copperheads)They do a good job on rodents, but woodchucks average around 25-30 pounds, so a snake that could dispose of one of those would be python sized. I don't think I really want a wild snake that size in my backyard!!! hehehehe
 
A python might also take care of any stray cats.
 
Funny y'all should say, saw a big snake under the pole shed today.

Maybe this would be worth trying. I wonder if I could train one to stay in the neighbors yard!
An occasional salamander or tarantula in the house is one thing, but a 6 foot long snake slithering in through the patio door might not be welcome.
 
Yea.. ours has a name too... Stew. (Not really.. Woodchucks ain't the best eatin')
