Where did that dollar go?

Three guys check into a hotel. In the interest of economy they decide to share a room. At the desk they find the room is $30.00 for the night. Each chips in $10.00 and they head to the room. The desk clerk realizes that there is a special on and he should have charged $25.00 for the night. He gives a bell-boy $5.00 and sends him up to the three guys room with the refund. The bell-boy decides it would be too difficult for them to split $5.00, so he pockets $2.00 and gives them each $1.00 so they only paid $9.00 each for the room. Since 3x$9.00=$27.00, and the bell-boy pocketed $2.00, where did the last dollar go? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The answer to your question is the same as if you count your fingers backwards. Start with the left hand and count 10, 9, 8, 7, 6 plus the 5 on the right hand will equal 11…

Hey my first post got deleted! Anyhow it is all about using an invalid math formula.

Bruce

The room charge was $25. $27 (what they paid) minus $2 (what the bell-boy pocketed) = $25. There is no missing dollar. If the special was recalled and the customers needed to give back the $3 plus the bell-boys $2 then that will equal $30. Nice try though! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thirsty.gif

The first time I saw this a few months ago, I never believed that anyone would fall of it. After subing for a couple weeks now I have now meet many people that would fall for this.
