I thought I saw one on Ebay this week, but now I can't find it. I know of the strike in '78, which stopped production for some time, but...How many other '78 TR7's are still around, besides mine? I see tons of 80,s, 79's, 76's.. BUT never a 78.
I know I have the information somewhere, but exactly how many were sent here to Canada? Is it as rare as my 74.5 MGB GT RB?
Just interested. Thanks /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have an engine from a '78... Does that count? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif Actually, I see some once in a while. Check Hemmings, and local ads. They're coming out like wildfire now. Expensive, too.

In that case maybe you have two rare cars in your collection... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif Had never heard the story about the apparent lack of 1978 TR7's before.

Yes you do own one of the lowest production years for the tr7 at only 6792 units. In comparison:
76' - 32,743 Highest
80' - 11,198....10,000 dhc
81' - 4657 Lowest

Still have some of the parts from a 78 that has since been scrapped. I bought it for a parts car right after I got my 81.It was one of the last Speke cars, DOM APL 78. It was unique in that it had the horrible 4 speed tranny. I suppose they were putting whatever they had on them to get them out before Speke closed. It also had the door lights, but with black rather than chrome surrounds. These I quickly commandeered for my 81 as the chrome ones had been buggered trying to install them without the biege bezels which I also took advantage of from the 78. The 78 had been rear ended hard and sat for 11 years not 1/2 mile from my place. Besides the door lamps I also got the visors for my convertible as it had none. The coupe visors have to be painted to match sort of but they're better than nothing.
FWIW the comm # was ACW 42250UF Trans #CG7204 engine # CL17799UCE pnt#FAB (school bus yellow) trim# AAA. I learned much about my 7 in dismantling what I did off the 78. I also had a 77 that had the 5 speed but the tranny had been swiped before I got it, they had left the knob on the dash though. Still have parts of both spread around here and stashed where I'll never find them. They have contributed to my 81 though, little things mostly, though the 2nd OS pistons in my 81 were out of the 78 as it had apparently been rebuilt(badly) just before it was wrecked.

I have a running 78 FHC with 93,000 original miles. My biggest problem right now is a wandering idle. When cold the car idles at 800 rpm. The idle increases as the car warms up until it idles at 1400 at its operating temperature. I beleive one or both of the temp compensators need adjusting or replacement. The car has been repainted orange but hopefully I can return it to the original Flamenco Red soon.
