My middle son is in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam as we speak (not all at the same time, of course). He emailed me and gave me his itinerary (that was nice of him) and said he would be back in 3 weeks. Visiting an old fraternity brother who runs a business in Bangkok (I should have never encouraged him to join a frat), along with another frat brother who works as a journalist in Venezuela. The bottom line of the email before the trip included the information that he quit his job as well. Said he will find another when he returns to New Orleans. Woof! He had better. House note, law school note, and night law classes begin the day after he returns. Where did I go wrong? Or, where did I go right? And he is the mild one of my 3 sons. Lived in Syria for 2 years before that.

I remember now why I never did those things. It was called the draft. Finished dental school at 23 and got my butt drafted. It was nose to the grindstone after that.

I am living vicariously through my kids.
