Re: Wheel/Tire Project Update

Had a set of new ones in the 60's. In my opinion they are the best looking mags I have ever seen. Sure would be nice if they made them again. I have contacted them several times with no reply.

Great to see them, yours look like new!

Re: Wheel/Tire Project Update

Thanks

It really was a lot of work. The wheels had been painted when we restored the 250 in 1983. I forgot how much paint was on them, and at first I tried to glass bead the paint off. Gentle and safe but a painfully slow process. Then it dawned on me , so off to Home Despot and got some basic paint stripper. This and the power washer did the rest. Back to the glass bead blasting in my little home cabinet and compressor. I have a 45 gal 3.5HP compressor , but blasting really brought my system to its knees. So, it took about 2 hours per wheel to get the finish uniform. The polishing was done by spinning each wheel on a contraption cobbled together by my friend Brian at Studio B. Started with 80 grit, then 150, 220 and finally 400 and scotch brite. Then Brian cleared the outer rims area. I am hoping that the spoke area will turn a nice dull gray over time.
