Wheel studs

Has anyone tried cutting threads on wheel studs? The car has spacers on the front wheels because the studs run out of threads before the wheel is secure. I figure tapping a 1/4" of threads would be the answer, but that's gotta be some tough steel. Thoughts?

Are you sure the spacers and longer studs aren't there for clearance purposes?

Anyway, if the lug nuts are fully threaded, you can drill out the last bit of threads.

Of cours that won't work it they are bottoming out. Then you'd also need to trim the studs. All in all, probably just easier and safer to switch out the studs.

Good question, I don't know that for sure. And the issue is with the lack of threads on the studs, not the nuts. I guess I could replace the studs as well, any ideas on a source?

If you just want stock lugs, then call your favorite moss resellers. If you need larger diameter, then you will need to ask the spridget racers for info.

If you drill the open end of the nuts, then it lets them fit overtop the unthreaded portion of the studs.
