wheel size ??? I've run out of resources

I've looked through just about everything I can find to see if a set of 6 1/2 X 14 wheels will fit on a B. The wheels that I am looking at have a back offset of 4 1/2 inches. Will these fit with what size tire? I'm not a boy racer here, the car will just be for recreational road use. If the fenders will need mods, how much? Jack

Lemme do some measuring today & I'll write something up for you...might be tonight though as I've a full day scheduled

6-1/2 is stretching it a bit wide but I've done 6" successfully...the trick is wheel offset....

....MGB Rostyle offset is, roughly, 3-1/4" on the thinner rostyle wheel....if the other wheel has more offset, you'll have to get spacers to center it in the wheelwell...

I always fit the front wheels first...bolt the wheel tight & then test lock to lock to see if the wheel rubs on the anti-sway bar or steering link....if it does. go to the local aftermarket wheel place & buy 4x4-12" aluminum spacers to move it out enough that it doesn't rub (don't worry about the tire rubbing - I've got a tire that's 8-3/4" wide on my GRM car & it doesn't rub anywhere)...my 15"x6" wheels required spacers because of their backspace

...in the rear, first make sure the bolts holding the shock to the body are pointed so that the head of the bolt is in the wheelwell - (if the nut end is in the wheelwell, reverse them)....then, based on backspacing, add spacers if necessary to center wheel in wheelwell....if the wheel/tire combo is too fat once its centered in the wheelwell, you can remove spacers to move it closer to the body or roll the wheelwell lip with a baseball bat or length of pipe....watch the bump stop area in the rear wheel well as that's the part of the body that sticks out the most into the wheel well

...I wouldn't buy a wheel 6-1/2"wide until I'd put it on the car to see if it rubs anywhere...& you can always go with a tire that has a low profile to keep it from rubbing...does that help a little?

slightly off topic. was just window shopping them superlites and the 15x6 wheels were spec'ed at 18.9lbs each. That sounds kind of heavy to me, but then again I have no clue how much the stock Rostyle wheels weigh either.

Anyone happen to know how much the 14" Rostyle wheels weigh?

I think they're about 17-1/2 to 18 each

so... you gain about 2lbs for a wheel that's 1" larger in diameter and a 1/2 inch wider than stock...

are there any 15" mini-lite replicas out there that wiegh less than the Rostyle?

oof ... yeah... I think exotic wheel materials is way out of my league. I think I could live with the extra 2lbs... back to window shopping....

Go find an old Saab with the Carroll Shelby Minilite lookalikes....15"x6" & weigh 15 lbs apiece

My Dunlop 15x5.5x72-spoke HD wire wheels weight something like 33 lbs each. Add tires and knockoffs and you're looking at 44 lbs per corner!

My Saab wheels with auto-x tires weigh 26 pounds apiece!

WITH tires?!?!? That's insane! What kind of tires are they? My Michelin Pilot 195/60R15 weight around 18 lbs each without tubes.

*suspects tony fills his tires with helium* /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

I know I know.. filling the tires with helium wouldn't help, because it's the mass that's there not the wieght... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hay I got some really special wheels I can give away. Look at last pic on my web site. Standard wheel centers, 5 inch wide rims with a 1/4 inch steel plate welded on the back side to make it nice and tough and heavy. Shoot I will even throw in the tires. =P

They're Hoosier auto-x...remember, tread is much different; amount of rubber is also different

Carol Shelby did a Volvo? which ones?

Of course I meant Saab, what the heck am I drinking?

The junkyards around here seem to all have at least 2 saabs in them.

Kenny - I don't know but I've got a set of his wheels...they say "Carroll Shelby" on them along with "SAAB"....believe it was in the 80's...they look like a Minilite but the edge bead is stronger.

Hmmm. I'll be on the lookout for some. Most of the Saabs in the 'yards around here are from the 80's - not many of them though... Maybe a couple per junkyard. Bad thing is I kn ow a guy that just got rid of 2 80's Saab 900's. I didn't even look at the wheels (and I think he gave 'em away - same guy that gave me my Snipe sailboat).

I'm still not sure where I came up with Volvo - but I like the p1800!

Just found it, Kenny...mid-80's Saab 900 Turbo....google "Carroll Shelby and Saab wheels"

OK. sounds like the one's I know of... Time to go junkyard scouting again - maybe next Thursday!
