What's your electric cost?

We just got our largest electric bill ever!
$480 for the two of us in our non central air home.
Open windows and ceiling fans. 20% less usage than
last June.

We are now paying $0.30 per kw/hr

Just curious, what's electric kw/hr cost in other
parts of BCF land? $ 30 cents seems kinda high.

Wish ours was 30 cents.

Yeah, but the average new car price was around $5500!

Naw ,would still be that cheap if all them out of staters hadn't moved here and had to have houses with air conditioning.
We get our juice from the snow melt
Mickey gets his from uranium

Yep - from our granite countertops!

0.085 with municipal power.

I need to look at my current rate, but this months electric and gas bill (they're combined) was 170 and change. I've had it as high as 350 in the winter though.

Dale: I am afraid that you are paying for the basic inefficiencies of PREPA. Those units at your local power plant go back to 1956 and burn Bunker C (which is almost crude oil). But even crude has been up over $140/barrel. What will your rates be when crude hits $200?

We are all paying for our society's 100 year-old love affair with cheap oil. Now that most of the easy to get oil is depleted, we will continue to pay more and more. AND we will be fighting with the likes of China and India for whatever is left in the earth.

I read something recently that boggled my mind. 40 percent of Americans believe that oil continues to be generated somewhere within the earth!!! Like the earth was some kind of nougat-filled candy.

There are some IPP's in PR. I know AES was building a plant, but I'm not sure when it's due to go on line. When they do, you will see some relief. Also, Edison Mission Energy and Gas Natural SDG. Have they started construction? Actually PR was seriously considered for a new generation nuke plant. At $0.30/kw-hr the more you conserve, the more you save, so take a look at your current habits regarding electricity.

I know you don't have central air, but you use fans. Fans make you feel cooler, but don't change the air temp. So, when you leave a room for a significant amount of time, turn the fans off. Turn off AND unplug electronics when not in use. Use cold water to wash clothes. Use energy efficient lighting. Conserve hot water usage. These little things can help.

I thought I was paying alot here on Long Island at $0.18 kwh. Still, $480 is a ton of electrical usage for a house with no A/C. (1600 kwh/month). There are two of us, and we have two window A/C's going (total 17,000 btu's) and still use less then half the kw's that you guys are using. You have to find out where that huge electrical leak is. :hammer:

Art- our actual use was 1.1 kw - the rest
of the charges came from fuel adjustment fees.

We have cut our use by about 20 to 25%.

Frank, our local Prepa plant was built in the 1930's
I have worked there and it is like visiting a
historic museum.

I don't know what our rate is, but VA Dominion Power just increased rates 18% in VA, which had relatively low electric costs compared to other mid-Atlantic states.

Better get used to higher energy costs, methinks.

Let's be realistic, if you paid $480 for 1.1 kw's, then you actual rate is more like $0.44 kwh. When I figure what my rate is, I include those surcharges. The electric companies use this surcharge garbage so it looks like their rates are not increasing, when in actuality they are.
