what's up with my horn button?

I noticed that my horn button is no longer fully seated. The top of the button is sticking out (see attached pic). I can push it in, but it comes out again. The horn works fine, but I'm concerned that if I attempt to pry it out, I may make matters worse. As can be seen, this is the original, unrestored horn button assembly...not pretty, but at least it's the real deal. Any comments/advice will be appreciated.

I have the same type horn push as yours, The non ajustable steering wheel cars had this type . If you just gently catch the chrome trim ring with your finger nails you can pull the ring off and the button will come off and you can remove whatever is jambing it. It comes apart pretty easy. just to be sure I just went down to my garage and did just as I said and the button came off. Bob

But Bob! his horn works just fine.---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm not too fussed about it looking aged, just a bit concerned that the button may completey fall off. Take another look at the picture and you can see that the button has partially popped out at the top. thanks

Has been so long, anyway if this is as I remember a sharp thing actually sticks into the wheel frame. Had to build one up with epoxy long ago. Stayed tight then but could still be taken out if necessary.

OK I see what you are concerned about. So I would remove it and see if I could repair or replace what ever it is that previously locked that outer ring in place. The horn button bit threw me.---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
