TR2/3/3A What's this tab for?

A long time ago I think there was something attached to it. Maybe the line for the temp gauge. Any ideas?

I've heard enough different theories to conclude that no one really knows.
Agree. But it is another interesting quirk of ST. The tab apparently held a fuel line on the Vanguard engine but was not used on the TR series. Why it was not entirely eliminated from production is a mystery. More mysterious is the fact that there are lots of covers without the tab as well as covers with it throughout the entire production run of sidescreens.
I use it to hang my spare from the rafters.

I use the tab to support the temp gauge tube. Just have to remember to unhook the twist tie when taking the valve cover off. :D
