Whats the smallest part on a BN1?

I think I need what might be the smallest part on the car?

In the throttle linkage rod that goes from the bulkhead forward to the carbs, in the end there is a screw cap (which you lock in place with a bit of wire), behind this screw cap there is a little brass socket and spring that with the screw in cap makes the socket of the ball joint on to the next bit of the linkage.

Still with me? Not nodded off?

Well I need the brass cap and screw. I lost them. I found them. I lost them again. Now cant find it.

Woops, you put them some place real safe of course where you would not forget this time.

I can't really help you find the part, but I can tell you it will be in the last place you look for it. As far as the smallest part is concerned I think the tiny washers that go on the ignition wire strands under the boot might take the cake, or some of the "E" snap rings inside the speedometer. I was disassembling a speedometer and pried off one of the latter and it hit the barn wall about 10 feet away, never to bee seen again. Yes I used large magnets to look. I hate when that happens. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif

Give credit for Ben knowing what his is missing. He is a step ahead of me.

Now what was that we were speaking of?

I've been going through the throttle linkage for my BJ8, "creating" new housings for the brass bushes. I found the Moss catalog helpful in identifying parts and also noted that many parts were available, though not the housings (essentially, a little rubber cup to hold the bush.)

The piece your describing sounds like the retainer for what Moss calls a "ball joint" for the BJ8, or something near it, although I don't follow the brass socket part.

If you can describe it from the Moss catalog, I can show the local used LBC parts guy here in town, I bet he might have a few in his bin. He's had everything else I've asked him for!

Hi Dar100, the bits he is talking about are located inside the ball joint . I would just get him a complete one if your source has one.---Fwiw--Keoke

The BJ8 only uses one of this type ball joint, it is the one at the lower end of the rod that connects the Throttle Switch and top rod to the Cross rod driven by the gas pedal.

Ok! I understand, it's the parts inside the ball joint. I'll try to go to his place Monday, I'm pretty sure I can get there. I'll report back.

Burgundyben, $25 and he needs a few days to look for it. (Coincidently, he had two at his front counter for a Triumph.)

I told him to go ahead and look for it. How would you like it to get to you?
