What's the Lucas part number?

I'm restoring a '59 Bugeye and planning to use the original Lucas "helmet style" battery terminals. If I use these original cables, I need a special terminal on the heavy brown wire that attaches to the battery and delivers power to the voltage regulator. I found this picture on another Sprite forum website but cannot read the part number on the box shown in the picture. Does anyone out there know the part number on this connector/brown wire cable? Thanks! Terry McArthur

I think I have a couple of extras, hidden under my stack of original Bugeye rubber floor mats. Unfortunately, they are all guarded by my very protective unicorn herd. (Tell Basil we need a sarcasm emoticon) If you've been lucky enough to find a helmet terminal with the proper socket for the brown wire (nobody is reproducing those AFAIK) it shouldn't be too hard to make up a mold to make a repro of the end of the brown wire,

Very impressive, Gerard. Can you get me some of those rubber floor mats?:jester:

No, but I can give you the part number... :jester:

Well, I actually do have a very good condition gearbox/tunnel mat. One of these days I'm going to investigate if reproductions are possible, but it may be too expensive or too much of a challenge.

Many thanks Gerard! I'll send them an email and see if they'll sell me one! I have a NOS red rubber transmission cover. Know anybody who might sell me the rest of the set?

NOS, as in "new"... or an original from a period car? If so (new), that's pretty amazing! As far as the floor mats, I would be surprised if any (new or used) even exist. The Nevada Beige Bugeye I bought in 1968 had the red interior. Unfortunately, I tossed it all not long after as they were already pretty tatty, even back then. Who knew?... :cryin:

moss uk part no AHA7776

Gerard,

I bought a new black tunnel mat from the BMC dealer for my bugeye in 1967 ....... $19.95. I know someone looked into reproducing the floor mats a number of years ago but it was prohibitively expensive. Maybe one of those 3D printers could help.

Wow, that's amazing!... I bet you wish you invested in a couple dozen of them!

I think you mean George Marinos? I seem to recall he had a blue set. With all the technology changes, it could be something more feasible today. The scanners/3D printers they have today would certainly make crating a prototype easier, with less risk of damage, but don't have any idea what production costs would be today. Through my 5 speed kit development the last few years, I've made some contacts that could lead me somewhere though.

The Moss UK part number is the cable from the solenoid to the starter motor (AHA 776). Moss doesn't list the special Lucas battery lead that goes from the battery to the voltage regulator.

I think it was George. IIRC the prospective price was about $1,000 the set and he needed a bunch of people in order to do it. Just wasn't enough interest at that price. Truth is, the original floor mats were pretty flimsy as you can see in Biff's "Old Gray" Little wonder they are just about unobtanium.

Yes, I agree, they certainly are. Hopefully, a current reproduction could be made to be more durable, either by material or thickness... or both. I remember the cost being at least that much too. Needless to say, he probably didn't have many, if any, willing to participate. That pic brings back memories. I love the red interiors. Since my current Bugeye project will be finished in Iris Blue, red is out, though I may use my maroon leather seats instead of traditional navy blue.

Gerard,

Were Rubber Mats the OEM Product vs. Carpet. Or perhaps carpet was an upgrade to OEM?

Bugeyes and HAN6 Mk IIs came with rubber floor mats as original equipment. Carpets were not an option. Remember, they were trying to make the Sprite as cheaply as possible and this was one way to cut costs. The picture I posted above is a HAN6 Mk II

Thanks Rick.
