What's that switch for

There's that lovely light switch on my '73 TR6 below the radio in the middle, you have to reach around the gearshift lever to get to it.
What is it supposed to switch?
My guess is an interior light but mine has nothing connected to it./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
I know there was a transmission tunnel light mounted on a plinth in earlier model years, is it for that? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

From '73 on the TR mounted the interior light switch right below the radio opening in the dash support. This controlled one (I believe) bare bulb in a socket under the dash on each side of the vehicle. These lights were also connected to the door switches. The lights were just about worthless. I uprated these and installed one of the older style tunnel lamps on the '75 about a month after the car was purchased new. The old style mounts were readily available back in '75. I think TRF handles something similar today. These do a nice job of lighting the interior if wired and lamped correctly.

Yeah, that switch works the two lights in the footwells. The bulbs are mounted just under the dash lip on either side.

I've been thinking of putting the tunnel light in my car as well, just for some extra illumination. The lens and the bulb holder are not to hard to find, they turn up on ebay all the time, but the base is getting rare and when I do see them they are pretty expensive. I believe you can get the whole assembly from TRF but it's pricey for just an interior light.
