What's that burning smell?

My wife and I just returned home from taking the TR6 out to meet some friends. Since it was getting late I decided to hop onto the highway to get home quicker. I was going about 65mph with the top down and I smelled this "burning smell". My wife said "what's that smell?" and I replied that it "must just be something burning somewhere". When we got to the top of the exit ramp we had to stop for the red light; I looked over my shoulder and saw billowing smoke coming from the left rear wheel well. My first comment was "Oh Sh#t we have a fire" so I immediately pulled over and got out my fire extinguisher expecting to have to put out a fire. The smoke subsided and I put my hand on the wheel and the lug nuts were so hot I couldn't keep my hand on it.
All this because dumb me neglected to release the hand brake fully. I think I'm going to wire in a brake light switch.
Scary, very scary!

I did that with a Chevy Van one time -- the parking brake indicator was not functional. Toasted the brakes pretty good, but no smoke or fire.

Egad! That handle is RIGHT THERE, Elliot!

...not that it ain't ever happened to ME!

What's that SMELL?!?! :smirk:

Even if there WAS a light, it would be Lucas, and you couldn't count on it.

The '73 didn't have a brake light switch on the hand brake as far as I know.
I know what the smell is NOW doc.

It's on, it's off, it's on, it's off.....

I let the smoke out alright but it wasn't Lucas smoke.... This time.

Why does Lynyrd Skynyrd come to mind here?

It wasn't "That Smell" but I smelled it!
