What's it worth??

I liek the Le, look. Go for it.

I picked up the LE today. Cold and rainy here in CA but the B shined like a star. Drove her up on the trailer and she's parked in front of my place now. She has a Snug top and a fold down top, and I think I'm going to sell the Snug top as who needs a hard top here in sunny northern CAL. LOL

I plan to rebuild the motor. Number one cycl. has 20#s pressure and 2,3,4 have 100#s. At a 132K miles I'd say she was due for a rebuild.

Paint is decent, but not perfect. A few dings and chips here and there, dent in the nose and the usually stress fracture on the driver's door by the wing window. Think I'll strip her down and repaint with a fresh coat of Black.

Hopefully by the early summer she'll be ready for the road. Wish me luck.

MUHAHAHAAAAA!!!!

I just started the stopwatch, Kev. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

"The Whole World's Watching!"

... no pressure tho.

OH! And progress photos. Lots and LOTS of photos!

Congrats, lots of photos.

I'll take lots of photos. Question... The original rubber bumpers are not in all that great a shape, I was thinking of maybe getting a set of the Team Liebre replicas, or the modified front and rear. What's your opinions?
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif

Keep the original stlye bumpers on the LE....The ones on mine arn't great either....when I get some time I'd like to paint them with some bumper paint....Theres been a few threads regarding bumper paint if your interesed....

Okay, so tell me what is the difference between a 79 LE and a regular 79 B?

The paint on the LE was black.....they didn't come in any other colour, interior could be either black or biscuit. The LEs had silver stripes along each side, alloy wheels, the chin spoiler under the front bumper and (I think) a different steering wheel. There was also a "Limited Edition" plaque that was supplied with each car but not all dealers chose to install them. That, I think, is it. They made something like 6,400 of these, so how "limited" they really were is open to debate.

& you can't match that black paint if you try to repaint....there's a little something BL left out of the paint formula

80's british secret... might it have something to do with just a pinch of fine flake in the paint? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Just a pnch, Kenny - but how big a pinch?

depends on the size of yer fingers! LOL
I would bet that it's pretty close to the amount of Essence that Emeril Lagasse throws when he says "BAM!"

Except you have to use your best british gentleman accent, and say "right then, thats just about enough of that!"

If your refering to the actual body color I matched it perfectly....had to repaint the tops of the two front fenders(one side due to the usual splash pan rust and the other via the mechanic dropping something on it)....Got the paint code(probably from a MOSS book, but can't remeber for certain) went down to Sherwin williams, they had it in the computer already...sprayed it myself, bluffed it out and you would never be able to tell, perfect match!

Had the car been repainted before you got it?

Did it then & does it now have a tint of metal flake in it?

If, could you share that paint code/formula with us?

Every formula I've ever seen doesn't have the metal flake in it - but the factory put metal flake there to keep people from copying - every car I've seen that has been repainted matches black perfectly but doesn't have the metal flake

AH, I didn't even know about the metal flake.....it must have been repainted before I got it without the metal flake....Thanks for setting me straight Tony!

BTW: It is a very nice deep black....will probably paint my TC the same black.

You're right - it is a very nice, sweet black...the little bit of metal flake just sets it off from all other years...my '63 is the same black without metal flake as is my '60 Farina Magnette

I knew about the flake, and it's alot less then you get in modern metalic paintjobs too. It's a very fine flake, and just barely noticeable in good light. I'd be willing to bet you could come up with the right amount of flake by mixing in small amounts (an ounce maybe of paint), and test spraying a few (or a couple dozen) panels with an airbrush or small spraygun.

Now that I think about it a very light metal flake would set the car off nicely...kinda ties in the stripping and wheels nicely
....now you guys are giving me too many ideas.....

*rubs hands togteher evilly*
