Whats going on with Ebay bidding and bidders ???

I have noticed in the last few weeks people bidding on Triumphs with an Ebay ID that starts with a letter then 2 asterisks and than another letter--like A**B, almost all of them have 0 feedback. Almost every Tr6 on Ebay right now has been bid on by someone with this kind of I.D ??. I also checked Miatas and BMW-Z3s and the same for them as well. Whats going on?, Bogus bids? Big overseas investors buying up classic and popular sports cars??

Re: Whats going on with Ebay bidding and bidders

You should see the following text under Bid history ...

"eBay has changed how bid history information is displayed for higher-priced items. To help keep the eBay community safe, enhance bidder privacy, and protect our members from fraudulent emails, only you and the seller of the item can view your User ID in bid history. Other members will see anonymous names."

I though it was scammers also, but they changed this a week or 2 ago to this new system.

Re: Whats going on with Ebay bidding and bidders

Didn't it used to be "Bidder1" ... "BidderN" etc. before, for the high priced items? I wonder why they changed it to the asterisk format?

Only if the seller requested a privet auction. This was to prevent scammers and legitimate sellers from hijacking someone's auction with a similar item they are trying to sell. Most cases doing it off e-bay.

Yes, it was. And it had nothing to do with me making my auctions private, something I don't do. I know I didn't receive any change notifications from e-bay on this change. But I have noticed in the past few weeks some very odd things with e-bay. They are now re-charging me for auctions that ended over a year ago, including some that were terminated due to listing violations. Another interesting e-bay quagmire.

That had me fooled, too!

Re: Whats going on with Ebay bidding and bidders

Just try to contact a real person at eBay.
They protect themselves well.

That's because there are no real people at ebay, just endless banks of computers named Hal.

I think that it's more like "The President's Analyst"-

Re: Whats going on with Ebay bidding and bidders

Ebay Phone #s,

800-3229266
888-7493229
408-5587401
408-5587400
408-3767425

to talk to a person you must push 0 every time they give you an option (prompt), 0 is not one of their options but keep pushing 0 anyway, thats the only way you can get through to a real person. You may have to try all the numbers to get through, when you finally get somebody -if at all possible dont let them put you on hold.

Thanks! I hope that I don't have a reason to need this information!

Nope - wasn't from a movie...
My mistake ... thought they worked that line into one of the movies, but it was just scrawled on the wall next to the phone.
