Played golf yesterday with "Anthony", a 30's something computer tech guy we were paired with. Told him I was working on an old car tomorrow. He asked "what kind of car?" "Triumph TR6". Pause. "What's a Triumph?" He never heard of it. It's come to this, fans.
 
ACK!!! Though not unusual. My insurance company secretary kept sending me the papers for my "Alpha Romeo" even after being corrected repeatedly. Kids these days... sheesh.
 
I get that all the time. Some of the "kids" are in their 30s!

OTOH, no one has asked "Is that an MG?" in a long time, so I guess it balances out :smile:
 
Seems like the "is that an MG" is the most common.

HA! Wonder if there'd be any demand for an Omega Romeo?
 
Back in 1961 my parents bought a (used) Mercedes 220S.

They were so proud of that car - but the first day they drove it, someone asked "Is that one of those new Studebakers?"

A few years ago I was adding an electric fuel pump to a '50 Packard. Went to local NAPA for a low oil pressure cutoff switch for it. Told the kid behind the counter what kind of switch I wanted and he insisted he had to know what car it was for to look it up. I finally told him and his next question was: "Is that made by Volkswagen?"
 
Had a lady who parked next to my TR6 some years ago tell me "that's a good looking Mercedes"... I just said "thank you"

Turns out not so far fetched after all. Today at the car show a fellow I was chatting with started talking about how Mercedes initially sold theor cars through Studebaker dealers - who knew.

Alpha Romeo just sounds like the prototypical Italian Stallion
 
I was in Vermont for the British Invasion this weekend and at breakfast one of the locals asked me if Austin Healey also made the Austin Martin. He's not alone though when I have told people I had an Austin Healey I have had several of them ask me if that was the James Bond car.
 
I went to the parts store a few years back to buy a coil for my pick-up, I approached the counter and asked for a 12v internally resisted coil. The lady asks me what it it for and I say it doesn't matter, she says it does because different companies use different coils, I says it doesn't matter an internally resisted 12V coil is the same regardless of application. She informs me that she cannot look it up without knowing what it goes on, because she wants to ensure that the part she pulls is the right one. So I tell her it is for a 61 IH. She looks at her computer screen and tells me she can't help me because the computer only goes back to 68, so I say can you look up a 68 IH then, and she then starts typing and ask me who made it and I say International, and she says yes I know that I mean who made it, Ford, Chevrolet, who? I say you know what don't worry about it, she asks if she can help with anything else and I say sure I need to get a coil for a 68 Camaro, she looks it up gets me a coil and I say thank you very much. I go home and put the coil on my pick-up and guess what, my IH runs just fine with the Chevrolet coil on it that I was assured would bring ruin upon me if I used it.
