To install hardwood flooring, its not too much. Man this is tedious work!

I am so Thankful that when Renee had our house built that everything that isn't carpet is ceramic tile. Now if I can continue to ward off her desire to have me paint the place I'll be OK. Why she seems to think it needs it every 5 years is beyond me. I think it's just a gal thing.

I do hope that Mrs. Basil has been working on your Spitfire in return :jester:

Mrs. Basil is supervising and that's a really important job! :hammer: So said!

What is it with wives? We have a perfectly comfortable home and she always wants to change things. Is it a nesting thing? For instance, we have the original Kentile in our kitchen. Bulletproof and forever. She wants tile. Everything that is old is new again. I will never understand. At least my bathroom tile is not pink.

Hey! That pink or blue bathroom decor brings BIG dollars on E-Bay!!! Blue toilets are a real seller!

I agree and I'm not doing any of this work myself. The guys who were doing it could hardly walk by the end of the day.

Finishing pics to follow.

It ~IS~ good lookin'!

...but here we have these li'l bastages called "termites". They don't sleep and are REALLY prolific. And they don't seem to have evolved to a point where they can destroy ceramic tile... YET.

Now for the really smelly stuff. Two coats of polyurethane sanded between each coat before the cabinets go down and then three more to follow. That stuff will send you on a trip without leaving the farm, so be VERY careful and wear a respirator.

These are after the first coat.

Tell ya about the time we went to the local Mexican resturant, where they were refinishing the bowling lanes in the ally in the back of the same building.
Whew! they started putting the stuff on one of the lanes about halfway through our meal. I could barely taste my food, and was getting light headed by the end of the meal. I felt sorry for the workers in the resturant.. thay really should have been closed that day.

My boss always said
"that's the smell of money!"

This is the same stuff, recommended by the contractor and the finisher. This is a high traffic area and kitchen area and it is very hard.

I can't blame her for this - it was my idea (partly due to trying to reduce effects of allergies by getting rid of carpeting)

Bas, in that case you better be VERY careful when it comes to the finishing of the floors. The second coat was done on Weds and it still smells pretty strong around here.

I bought 3/4 inch white oak - pre-finished. A friend has had this same stuff in his home for a couple of years and the finish seems to hold up VERY well (it's also what I put in my study and my hallway last year). If I had to finish the wood, I'd probably have hired someone.

This is also 3/4" white oak, but not pre-finished and from the smell, right now I wish it was. But as it gets warmer, we'll open the windows and it will eventually clear out. Once all of the kitchen work is finished, he'll be doing three other rooms and the halls, but those are already finished, so only two top coats after sanding.

At least it doesn't smell. The poly smell finally was gone yesterday, just in time for the cabinets to get started so we can do some more floor coating next week. If it would EVER get warm here, we could open the windows for a few days, but I guess that's a ways off.

Good for you Basil. That is really hard work and I'm glad you've almost completed the project. Post some pics when you can.
