What year gearbox?

Hi again all.
The tranny speedo pinion gear is shot in my 67B. However,I have a later gearbox and need to know the approximate year so I can get the correct part. It is a non-OD full syncro 4 speed with the filler plug on the side. No dipstick. The shifter looks like the short one from 1977 or later. The retaining ring for the shifter is horseshoe shape instead of circular. Could this be one of the so called "later" gearboxes (1977-1980)? Also, would the PO have had to change the starter for compatability with the later gearbox? I Thank you for your help.

'67 still has the 3-syncro trans with the starter in a higher location & the hole in the bellhousing for the starter drive....all other trans are different from that...all others use the horseshoe retaining ring - shifter is irrevalent to the actual year of the trans as they are all interchangeable '68 onward.
