They sold for around $ 32,000 when the plant closed in 05. Nanjing says it'll sell you one of theirs, supposedly to start production soon

, for just under $40,000.
You'd have to be pretty much in love with the car to pay that much for it. No matter what you say, it ain't British! More than likely the only thing good about it is, the wiring probably won't be Lucas!

Paul:

Based on some of the stuff I've seen, I'm not sure Chinese wiring would be better.

Even though the TF is a modern car with mid-engine, rwd, the one thing about the modern MG TF that bugs me is that it reminds me of a Misubishi Eclipse Spyder

Barry, I think you mean it will be assembled in Longbridge. The parts will be made in China and shipped to the UK. It,s like buying a model airplane kit made in China, You assemble it here, but it's still Chinese. Strange as it might sound, if it was made by the Japanese, I'd have a lot more faith in it. JMHO. You know what Nial, Your right! You would be hard pressed to identify one from the other while passing or being passed by one on the road. It's like, which came first, the chikin or the egg?

While they may look similar in photographs, in person they are quite different. The size for one is very different.

Paul, I'm not sure why you think we'd think that sounds strange. Japaneese made products are far superior to Chineese made products.

Everyone said that about the Korean cars too, when they first started importing them. I don't know about kia's firsthand, but our little hyundai seems to be a pretty well built vehicle. Not exciting, but reliable.

Hi Folks,

I`m typ. on the Triumph forum but was just browsing.

I surely can think of a lot of other LBCs I can buy for $30K+!!!

Will this TF be shipped RH or LH drive to the US?

Russ

If the Chinese want to capture the American market, they need to do a Retro MGB, they not going to capture our imagination selling us cars that look like Toyotas and Hondas. It ony takes a good look at what MINI did to realize the sucess they would have in America if they give us what we want, a look into our past.

I agree with you and Hap Russ. Before I would spend that kind of money for a standard modern glob of a wind tunnel body design, that will decrease in value, for who knows how long, I'd "invest" it on something like an XKE Jag, Morgan or original TF etc. You get the best of both worlds, nostalgic ride and a car that continues to increase in value. It just my thought but, I can't believe that someone would rather ride in a new Chinese MG than an XKE Jag, or a bunch of other nostalgic cars that can be had for less money!

A retro MGB and MGB-GT would be very cool. Imagine that classic old design with modern drivetrain and a factory warranty! I just don't know how they'd do the bumpers. The classic (and most desirable) MGBs are, debatably, the CB cars. However, I think if they could do a modern offering along the theme of the RV8 the RB version would suffice.

More than $40K without a doubt! They wouldn't be able to easily compete with the Mazda Miata although it's probably approaching the magic $40K price itself.

Shawn

MORE!

The base price for a new 2008 MX5 Miata is $21,500. The base car has 166 HP, A/C, full power, electric windows, etc. The high-end Touring model with the neat, folding metal roof is about $26,000. My '00 Miata has 65,000 miles on it and I was just looking at the new ones.

I doubt you could have a good-as-new MGB built for you off a Heritage shell for $40,000 unless you did a lot of the work yourself (although I would love to do it).

Perhaps the Hyundai now but the very first cars were, at best, rust buckets here on Bonaire. Brazilian made cars fall apart -literally. And I would pay about $10 for a Chinese car then sell it quickly.

Well, at least one thing's certain, the copyright to MG will actually be owned by the Chinese, instead of being just blatantly copied!

Sorry for sounding nationalistic, and I'm not even partially British, but my MGC was made in Abingdon, and I can't really see shelling out that kind of money for a Chinese-made car. Too many unknowns.

And regarding the Oklahoma MG plant, a snowball in heck has a better chance! They'd be wise to buy an old Ford or GM ex-SUV plant, now that those two have finally gotten the memo that gas is above $3/gallon.
