What type and gage of sheet metal for rust repairs

What type of sheet metal and gage should I look for to use for making rust repairs on the 6. The repair is on the inner fender.

The stock steel is 18 guage, fwiw. Good thickness, a little harder to warp and burn through. Only drawback is working it on compound curves. If you go with thinner metal , you will have more of a ridge/elevation change to blend as well.
