What to do with old gas?

I've gotta drain a full tank of gas. How do I contain it and what can I do with it?

The beemer I am picking up was stored with a full tank of gas but it's 5 years old. I've been told that running it on old gas will do damage to plugs, O2 sensors, cat.... This is quite a pickle I'm in. Any suggestions.

Drain it off into containers, mix it 50/50 with what ya run inna mower over the summer! Cut yer mowin' "overhead" in two.

The containers is the hard part. Only thing I have is 5 gallon spackle buckets. A full tank has to be like 20 gallons and I have a gardener.

Let's se . . . you have a gardener, right? You'll be drivin a BMW, right? IMHO, seems like you should be able to afford to hire someone who deals with industrial/chemical waste removal/recovery. They can meet you somewhere and suck it out of the tank.

I'm with Doc - got several plastic gas containers around...half old gas, half new runs lawnmower all season long!!

Just because I have a gardener and a BMW does not mean I'm rich ya know  I pay him $15 bucks a week to cut my lawn. Really not a gardener at all just a lawn cutting guy. For the amount of money I spend on him vs. the time I spend getting out the mower fillin 'er up cutting disposing the stuff, buying the fertilizers....$15 is a no brainer. Actually my wife insisted.

5 gallon buckets of gas hmmm....

$15!!! I can't get mine cut for less than $100!!!

You've sir have a much bigger lawn. I live on long island where I am privileged to own 1/5th of an acre and most of it is house, driveway and garage.

hehehehe...3-1/2 acres.....ah, north Alabama!

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you. Just my distorted sense of humor. However, disposing of that much gas is a real challenge. It would be worth calling a few chemical waste firms just to see what they might suggest. Here's another suggestion. Cosidering the price of gas today, could you donate it to an organization? Seriously, if it was filtered properly and used 50/50 with fresh fuel, it would probably be OK. And you might be able to make a charitable contribution. :winner1:

Geez. Just call the lawn rat and offer it to HIM!!! Tell him to bring his own containers. And ask for a discount this summer.

I was not offended in the least which is why I smiled. Hey I own an MG how cheap can I be. The Beemer was practically a gift that I could not pass up. I've probably post a few in the pub once I get it home.

I wonder how long it would take to evaporate? Is that wrong?

Oh and will it really destroy the sensitive bits in the engine? It has not run in 5 years and it actually started on the first try without problems. I know I know I should not have done this but it has a remote start and I hit the button by accident after I put the battery in it. Idled high kicked down and smoothed out nicely. I shut it down right after that.

drain half of it from the Bimmer's tank - put 93-octane in on top of it with some Stabil & drive!!

The half you took out, give to your lawn guy or pour in small parts back into the Bimmer's tank mixed with an appropriate amount of new gas!

Don't pour it down the storm drain...hehehe

Or, you could use it to kill your lawn & then not have to pay to get it cut...hehehehe

:iagree:

Again, considering the price of gas, put it on Ebay.

Or, tell your gardener to take it away.

So using some of it should not kill anything in the car? I'd think that any condesation would sink and comeout first if I drain some of it off.

Might run it a bit and then change the fuel filter.

Ain't like tuning up a B thats for sure. Plugs are the same but wires is $250 and a cap is about $90.

& I cut 3-1/2 acres today!!

& trimmed most of my crepe Myrtles

& cut a dead pear tree to the ground

& trimmed a few Bradford Pears

& hauled everything off.
