What tires [tyres?] for a 4.5" wide 15" rim?

What are the best high-performance tires available for a 15 inch diameter, 4 and 1/2 inch wide, 72 spoke wire wheel?

It seems that most tires that fit that skinny of a rim are for compact economical cars. Is there anything that would be a little better in the corners?

Thanks in advance!

Matt

Good quality tyres that look 'period' for the car are produced by

Michelin
Vredestein
Avon

165's will be fine for the 4.5.

These tyres may cost more that you are used to paying in the US. If so see if you can track down some Coopers. I had some and they had the correct look.

[/ QUOTE ] I would double check the width of your rims as I think 72 Spoked rims are only available in 5" widths as a minimum. ---Fwiw--Keoke-?

I don't have 'em in my possession.

Doesn't Moss carry 72 spoke wheels that are 4.5" wide that fit earlier hubs?

Matt, I guess so.All the 72 spoke wire wheels will fit the early/late Healey cars.I just thought that the 5" width was the narrowest width that the 72's came in.--Keoke-?

Matt,
Once you find out what width your wheels are, check out
this link for some ideas on tires. Also, these guys will mount, balance and true your tires on wire wheels. Not many places left that know what they are doing with wire wheels. I don't have any $$ intrest, I just liked their quality of work. I bought their Gillet tires and have close to Dave's recommended ride height as they are slightly " taller " than standard 165/R80.
