What the Heck is THIS ?

A couple of years ago, a friend of mine bought a 67 or 68 (he knows, I don't) E-Type coupe from the original owner.

In the pouch, along with ALL of the original purchase paperwork and ALL of the maintenance and service information, was THIS bent piece of brass rod. It is about .10" in diamer and has equispaced "dents" in the short end of the bend.

Yesterday, he asked about 20 Jaguar owners at the Dallas All Brit. Car Day if they knew what it is or what it did.

Nobody knew and the original owner is "gone" now, so my friend can't ask him.

Do any of you know ? Maybe it was bent just to get it into the pouch.

Please, no guesses or smart remarks. He got lots of those yesterday.

Thanks for your input.

Tim

A WAG would be for checking trans oil or diff levels.
See where it comes up to on the marks.

Smell it.
Dead Dinsoaurs generally smell bad forever.
