what size should the holes be to take my rear seat

I am now having my carpets fitted by a local trimmer but need to make sure my rear seat pans fit before i take it to him.
As i fitted a new seat panel (the old one was a bit rotten) i am not sure how low the pans should sit in the holes to allow for the foam and the carpet on top ?
Does anyone have any guide measurements for a BJ7

chicken im not sure what your asking but the interior is out of my bj7 at this time, if you do a rough sketch of the areas you need measured ill do it for you.

Basically i fitted a new rear seat pan panel and i guess as with all panels there is some altering to do.
My seat pans do not really fit properly into the cut-outs in the rear floor so i guess it's a case of enlarging the holes till the seats drop in,should the seats be slightly raised of the panel to allow for the carpet and foam underneath ?

If you got that flat piece of crap seat surround, yeah, it needs trimming. At least mine did. It might have been bad of me, but I didn't worry about seat-to-surround clearances. I don't remember any issues, but the rear seats have been out for a while for some other work so I can't check it. There are slight differences on a BJ8 too.

Mine has a slight bevel on it before it goes to the hole where it then has about 1" of flat which i guess is the bit you trim back, anyway it will be trimmed by the weekend, out with the grinder or maybe the plasma cutter.
Would show it better if i had a pic.

Hi Rob,
I had to cut into the beveled area somewhat to get the seats to lay flat. Here is a vague diagram of where I cut (red line) to get the seat pans to work.

I got my jigsaw out today !! and enlarged the holes so that the seats dropped in that bit more, however i am still not happy with the final fit. Either the seat pan base is bent or i welded it up wrong because the front of the pans sit hard against the metal but the rear curved backs sit slightly raised from the base (you can get your little finger in)
I guess i may end up packing this with a piece of ply or just foam and carpet.
Did you have any problems like these ?

Have you tried tightening up the attaching screws or bolts? BJ8's have studs welded to the pans which protrude through the rear seat surround, and are attached with nuts and washers. I understand that earlier models had screws from the pans into the surround. Either way, fully securing them will give you a better idea of the final fit. In addition, the surround is upholstered with a 1/4 inch foam under the vinyl, which will take up some space. If the pans are not yet upholstered, some space will be taken up with vinyl. Finally, some foam insulation tape between the pan and the surround will take up space as well. You may not be as far off as you think.

Hi Rob,
I started to write a post about re-shaping the curve of the seat surround, but thought that may be premature. You may want to try some 1/4" high density closed cell foam to cover the surround with. The denser material will push the front of the seat pan up and forward, which may be enough to level the seat out in the hole. I suggest closed cell foam because I see you live in a wet(ter) climate. Any water that splashes up there could leach into normal foam and might rot out the interior.

I think you are right i will pack it out with closed cell foam, the car is going to have the carpets fitted in 2 weeks so i amy get the trimmer to tidy the area up.
