TR4/4A What really is the best clutch/bearing combo

Ok I have done the searches - read the Buckeye articles and everything else I can find. I am totally confused. Could somebody please give me some guidance for the best clutch/throwout bearing combo? I am not racing or autocrossing only the occasional "fun" driving. I would like a lighter clutch so if I go nuts and let my wife drive she would not struggle. Would like to get by without spending the money for the "Magic Kit" but if that is the solution then I will. One supplier has a Sach's kit with a knockoff Gunst bearing. TRF has OEM with a Koyo bearing. I have read that the pinned type fingers are better than the roller or other fingers on the pressure plate. I would like this to be smooth shifting, long lasting without undue pressure. Please - some advice?
 
I'm afraid this is one of those areas where experiences (and opinions) vary widely. I run a Laycock pressure plate, B&B friction plate, and an original type RHP bearing. It was my choice for "best available", and has worked very well for probably over 100,000 miles. When I moved the OD tranny from my wrecked TR3A to my current TR3, I didn't even replace the friction plate!

IMO this all got started because people were selling the wrong pressure plate, and there was a time when RHP made a lot of bad bearings. The bad bearings are gone, and most likely so are the wrong pressure plates. But YMMV.
 
Randall - So you are running the original pressure plate and bearing sounds like. Currently it has a bronze sleeve and probably the original T/O bearing (not original trans). Also has the original style B & B pressure plate. Should I just slap a new B & B friction plate on and go? How long do pressure plates last? Some writers seem to think using the original is best. Car has roughly 84,000 miles showing.
 
Others will disagree, I'm sure. But if it has been working for you, I wouldn't change anything that cannot be demonstrated to be worn or defective. Put a load on the TOB, if it still turns smoothly, I would reuse it. Etc,etc.
 
The transmission/clutch is out as I am totally rebuilding from the frame up. I was hoping to hear about the Koyo bearing and some experiences of different clutches but I have not so I think I will order the OEM/Koyo setup from TRF as I trust them to have good stuff. I did read about others complaining about too much pressure, premature wear etc and was just trying to avoid that. There is so much written with different experiences it is hard to know what is good. I only drove the car home so have no experience with what was in it. Thanks for your reply.
