What oil in differential for MK2 Sprite?

I have to get the Sprite on the road tonight, if I have time I want to replace the diff oil. What should I use?
I have a feeling Jack is going to say 30 Wt engine oil?
Is that right or is it gear oil?

While on the subject, what's a good oil to put in the 948 Bugeye engine?

I lean towards the Valvoline VR1 but am open to suggestion.

I believe you need 90 wt gear lube in the differential and just be sure to use engine oil with ZDDP in it, 20/50 if available.

Thanks!
That's why I like the VR1.

Use 90 wt gear oil, ZDDP is for your lifters and camshaft in the engine, your rear diff could care less. Don't worry much about brands of 90 wt gear oil is gear oil, I ran the Coastal 90WT in the race cars for years.

Yep, oil with zddp is in the engine & new 80w90 in the diff.
