What next? Radio no power!

Ok, here we go. Replaced Hazard light switch which indeed did correct the blinker problem..Had the radiator repaired and reconditioned. Trunk has been repaired and repainted, but I will need to go back because they did a poor job. another story.

I removed the driver side door panel to lubricate the mechanical. Learned that my courtesy light is gone, will need to reorder.

But, in the process, I now have no power to my radio. It is aftermarket.

Any ideas? Nothing, nada when I push the power button. All 4 fuses appear to be intact, although the third from the top seems to be missing a wire, wierd! only one going out, none coming in so to speak. Also, clock is not working, it used to .

Thoughts?

Tom - just a thought. There's usually a separate fuse on the radio power line. It's about two inches from the back of the radio.

And if anyone knows where I can buy a period am or am/fm radio appropriate for my 76 B I'd sure appreciate learning how to find one! I think they were marketed under the name BMC.

Tom...I have been thinking about this and your other post...it sounds like you may have a problem with the wiring to the light...and it is where your radio may be spliced into the purple wire. you mentioned changing the hazard switch. I am not sure how a 78 is set up, but my 74 wiring is all right there...get out the munti-meter and start testing. The light is so simple, I cannot imagine why it would be bad, and these symptoms are even more indicative of a wiring problem...possibly a bad ground.

My clock went also. My radio is hot wired on a split from the clock also. The fuse, #2 fixed it. But now #3 is blowing all the time. Lucas phantoms. One guy told me to just change the whole fuse box because he had similar and it was micro cracks in the lousy bakelite those brits use. I know they invented plastic but they seem to have never improved it. I am trying that. Waiting for a fuse box now.

The way those radios get crammed in there in the console is ripe for cut and abraded wires, shorting out, etc. and as pointed out there is a separate fuse down there next to the radio. Mine was a mess and I had to sort it out and re-wire the whole console. That wire comes off of a purple, hot all the time, wire that is fused at the fuse block and drops off the main harness down to the console with a batch of other wires in a group of snap connectors that fit next to or under the radio and connect to all the console wires. Bruce is right to check out anything else that is on that circuit or not working. Be sure you have the correct wiring circuit diagram for your year and understand the circuits involved. The time spent on the wiring diagram will really save guessing. I thought I had the right one (color from on-line source 67-70 years) and it turned out mine is #8 in the Bentley manual......68-69 for "certain jurisdictions". Once I found the right diagram my wiring harness installation went much smoother and actually permitted me to point out a change in the new harness from original diagram....which turned out to be an improvement.
