What Kind of Accent?

Inland north. People do ask if I'm from Chicago all the time, but I have a distinct Chicago accent. The grocery store I shop at is "the Jewels", I eat "samwiches", if I need two of you to follow me I'll tell "dabodayouse", the Cubs are on "da Nortside", and the number three-thirtythree doesn't have any "h" sound.

The funny thing is some people also think I'm from Canada. I drop the "o" sound in "house", "out", and "about".

Isn't Midland where Jim Hall, the racing driver,
is from?
I also got Midland,although I really don't have
an accent.I lived in Eureka all of my life.

Wow! I think you're right, Doug. At least, that triggered something in my memory banks. Now I'll have to do some research.

Rather than "Midland", I think they should have used the term "Midwest" - makes more sense, from the description.

I lived in Texas for a number of years "Y`All" is a common term as well as "Home Place" for home. Any kind of soft drink no matter the brand is a "soda".
Now I live in Utah again { I was born here, raised in So. Airz. until 15 then moved back to Utah} One term I have heard here on more than one occasion is some people calling a horse "Harse" insted of the word Them sometimes it becomes just "em" "tell em we`re here" or 'um' "have um come over".
Accent, who me? I dun have no accent.

Midland here too. Then again, I am a lifelong Ohioan...

It said I was from Philly. Go figure. I think the way I talk and the way I hear it are very different. I don't hear an accent. I live in the SouthWest and almost all ask me if I'm from Boston. Close just outside. Mostly just a New England accent I think.

I especially have an accent when I'm tired.

Anyway, I don't 'park my car', I 'temporarily place my motor vehicle'.

Ayup.

I has me as "Northeast" which is where I have spend most of my life.

It did not seem to pick up the subtle Irish brogue (Kilkenny) or later, the not-so-subtle Cockney accent (London) I had as a kid.

Missed any sense of my five years in Toronto too (I was there "aboot" five years, Eh.)

I guess I just sound like everyone else from New Jersey [/sigh] /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

The survey says southern, but when I worked in Atlanta, people said I sounded like a hick. I seems we picked up a little from the south and have some left overs from the Brits and Irish that settle this part of the country.

Basil, worshcloth and crick are not words?

We noticed that, Ant'ny. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif
