What is this part?

Here is a photo of a bent piece of metal that is bolted
to my radiator skid plate. It was not attached to anything.

On the opposite side of the RSP there is a hole where another
of these bent strips could be attached.

So....

1. what is it?

2. Did DPO Pedro's junkyard mechanic forget
to install one where the empty hole is?

3. Do I need it? ( or two )

4. Can I remove it and fugedaboudit?

Hey, if Tinster didn't ask all these stupid questions,
who would?

Looks like it came from an Erector Set.

Not an original part. It may have been put there at one time to support fog or driving lights.

It appears to be the machine gun holder. Are you sure James Bond didn't own this car once in its past?
Actually, no real purpose except to confuse you. Deposit in garbage and continue on
Dave

Tinster, I have yet to rattle your cage in a long time
so I thought I'd weigh in as well.

This looks to be something Pedro installed to hold something
in place, possibly contraband or some such thing. Looks to
me like you could safely discard it.

Has the car appeared to have any stash holds or the like?
Could this be tape to hold a rifle?
Or how about.....
IMHO
Naw, you don't need it.

It's weight to help balance the car in the turns...

Hey ....... Thats a part of my Motorhome, I was wondering where that could have went. {Just by looking at it I know Pedro worked on my M.H. once}. Give it here!

Seriously Deep six it! Or file 13 your choice.

Larry,

You're close, but not quite there. Dale, it's actually the mounting bracket for the weights to balance the car, depending on whether or not you are turning right or left most of the time. See, that's why there are so many holes, to make it adjustable.

That was a very expensive option back in the day. The fact that you live on an island and all of your left and right turns are equaled out, means that you don't really need it and you could safely remove it and sell it on eBay, say to someone who might live in Louisiana or Canada..........

To Canada?
There are absolutely no need for small parts like that on our high speed dogsleds.
And anyway, these are illegal on any sanctioned vehicle used on inspected snow.
Must be something used on islands and small states.

that's clearly the male part of the beer can holder Part No. 34476. This Lucas optional extra is useful when you need to secure a cold one whilst working under the car for prolonged hours.......
Your Pedro must have the attachment part (No.34477) still in his hand.

Kiss my Kamm back.

Just guessing here but it appears there is little
need to refurbish the metal strip and re-install
it with new grade #8 fastener?

Thanks for the chuckles.

Dale,
You said you were just going to leave the radiator shroud because you didn't want to have to remove the radiator again. You are turning into a perfectionist and putting the rest of us to shame!
Nick

Tis true Nick, my friend-

BUT...............

I figured a way to get the radiator shield off
WITHOUT removing the radiator. It took maybe
10 - 15 minutes so I just had to do it.

Switching out the radiator looked to me like it might
open a can or worms.

Enough things on my car have been done half a$$ed
by others. I do not intend to contribute to the mess.
