I'm considering buying a later Mk VIII/IX saloon and I see some adverts referring to PAS. Can you tell me what this is? Is this the hill brake lock system?
and very primitive power assisted steering at that - the pump is usually attached to the generator or alternator. lots of people upgrade their saloons to rack & pinion and a modern XJ-6 power steering pump. Expensive.
The pump is an Eaton pump ala Fords of the fifties (which also ran off the back of the generator). The MKVIII/MKIX PAS seems better than the MKII/S PAS for some reason. I would leave a MKIX steering as is but I cannot wait to change my S-Type to rack and pinion.
