You found the perfect XJS 700 miles from home? You see the pictures. You get the records faxed to you. You like the sound of the seller's voice. But you can't drive it without a flight. Would you ask the seller to get a Jag dealer to give it a checkout? And with that certification, would you then take the flight, expecting to buy the car? Or--would you never entertain it at all. Because it seems like it may come to such a decision--as the coupe is rare around here. Just asking...

I took a 650 mile test drive one time. St.Louis to Pittsburgh (2 day high of 8 degrees F), No top, No heater! I wore a 1/4" wetsuit, insulated coveralls and a full face helmet w/ scarf.
9 pm. lights went out while traveling between 2 semi trucks. (voltage regulator)
Got home and found out an important suspension component was cracked almost all the way through. Almost lost it a couple of times in a snowstorm with my 135R14 bald tires doing I don't know how fast ( spedo issue)
It's not how much $ you waste or how many times you cheat death...It's the adventure.(note: he wouldn't come down in price so I couldn't afford to ship it.) My advice...Get a 1 way ticket and tell us how it goes.

Gotta tell you, it's racing green and tan interior--my personal wet dream in a Jag--and it's hard to resist the adventure. Price is right too, and mileage not too high. Sigh.... I thought I was waiting 8 months for a BMW lease to end! This wasn't supposed to happen yet.. Glad to hear I'm not the only mad romantic.

If you want to spend a few extra bucks you could have the car appraised by an independant.Might make the flight more enjoyable-FWIW---Keoke

Here's what I did when I purchased my E-Type a couple years ago. I asked the seller in Arizona to bring the car to a fellow in the same town. This is a knowledgable guy that volunteered to pre-inspect the car for me prior to my jumping on a plane to test drive. Once he had inspected the car and given it the thumbs up, I paid to fly down and drive the car. This is one of the great advantages of club membership and most of the knowledgable club folks that I have run across will happily make themselves available to do this kind of thing.

In fact, the fellow that pre-inspected the car is a regular poster here and he responded to me from a post I made on this Forum. So - in what town is the car currently residing?

Great idea! But who....

The car's in El Paso, Texas. It would be AMAZING if a trusted club member could look at it for me. Any takers?
