Boraxo!
Yes, the original borax hand cleaner I packed away 20 years ago. Wow does this stuff clean. Better then that sissy orange and pumice crud. No aromatic hand lotion, just good old soap and borax to abrade the skin.

I remember when it was in all the public lavatories instead of the foo foo liquids you find now.

All that remains is to find a local source before it is all used up.

Yupper, I well remember them "twenty mule teams" dragging that Borax outta
the desert. That stuff would really clean yer hands of grease and grime.
A dim memory of Ronnie Reagan is associated with my memmory of the TV ad?
Can't quite bring it into focus.

Boraxo... dang, haven't seen that in years. I use the creamy gojo stuff (or whatever variation the local place has) for oil and grease now.

Boraxo's website has a store locator function but it's totally lame and doesn't seem to work for most of the product line. You can probably call them and ask.

I seem to recall that the last time I bought a 5lb box I got it at Pep Boys or some place like that.

PC.

Yep! Perfect tie-in for Boraxo, who advertised on the show!!!

It's still on shelves. We get it from the local "Publix" grocery store. Scrub your hands clean and eradicate bugs. Pet safe. Packaging has changed to a green "cutesy" box.

Lava hand soap is another I keep on hand.

Lava changed their color a few decades ago but is still the same soap. It's all there is here at th' hovel for bar soap.

Lava is great. When I had a boat and worked on the engines, I always came out all greasy and dirty. Off came the clothes, and with a bar of lava in hand, right over the transom and into the saltwater I would go. It was the only soap I found that would foam in saltwater. My wife hated me when I did that.

Thanks Ray for the info on Death Valley Days
and thanks for that great old photo.

I kinda remember an old coot with a scragly beard.
Was that Ronnie? I was a youngster, I think.

I have 2 unused bars of Lava hand soap I found in the garage when I moved in. So old it does not even have a zip code on the package.

Can you tell if it's green or gray, Vince? You may have an E-Bay treasure there! :jester:

No, that wasn't Ronnie. Ronnie replaced "The Old Ranger"

WOW!!!

It's all coming back to me, like out of the fog.

I remember that Old Ranger guy.

Back in the day (70's), I was an aircraft maintenance mechanic working in the hangar for one of the airlines. We used to have a little old Scottish mechanic in our jet engine overhaul shop who would sleep inside his bench about twice a week (never did find out why - although I could guess) and in the morning after a wash and brush up he would clean his teeth with Boraxo and his finger.

Can you use Borax washing soda? I think that's the stuff in the green Box that Doc was talking about. "20 mule team Borax" I add it to the water when I do the electrolytic rust removal. And I've used it agenst rodents, and insects, and added it to the wash, But I never gave it a thought as being the same stuff that used to be in the dispensers over shop sinks.
I gotta try it now.
My dad always had a tin of "gunk" hand cleaner. that stuff worked very well even without all the pumice that his bars of Lava had. had a very distinct odor as well. Not bad, just distinct.

You couldn't do better'n take lessons from THAT fella....
