What holds the cam in place?

I removed the front and rear plates to remove the crank. When I removed the cam gear and chain it seems the only thing holding it in place is the plates. Can someone tell me if there is anything else holding it in. Without the plates it slides out. Am I missing something?

There's a three-bolt retainer holding the camshaft in place behind the cam sprocket.

Don't forget the lifters.
